The President of FC
Barcelona, Sandro Rosell, praised Lionel Messi in an interview
with Marca (h/t to Goal). Rosell went as far as to declare that Messi has
moved further in world football than Pele and Diego Armando Maradona.
Rosell invited the supporters and non-supporters of FC Barcelona to enjoy the era of Messi while it is present. What Messi did in the UEFA Champions League match against Bayer Leverkusen surpassed any achievements by Pele and Maradona.
It is not every day that a player scores five goals in one crucial match, and Messi did that. He buried the claim by Pele of being an "incomplete" player who does not "use his head."
Messi used his head and impressed supporters (and opponents) with his feat on that fateful day of March 7, 2012. He was able to sneak one of the goals past Bernd Leno, who is one of the best in Bayer Leverkusen.
Messi also scored one of his five goals from 19 yards, which is a feat in itself. What also impresses the people is that Messi does not brag when it comes to his latest contribution (or other contributions) to FC Barcelona and world football.
Messi is destined to go down in history as the one of the greatest in sports, especially FC Barcelona and world football. It is a shame that Time magazine chose to leave Messi out of the front page of its US edition, because it does not consider Messi, football and American soccer to be newsworthy
